The Almaty City Development Center and Almaty Management University signed a memorandum of cooperation in urban studies, urban management, and applied research.
The document aims to combine the parties' expertise, educational, and research potential. The memorandum envisages joint work in the areas of urban environment, public spaces, transport infrastructure, historical heritage, local community participation in city life, and other pressing issues related to Almaty's development.
The first practical outcome of the partnership was the defense of the diploma projects by graduates of the «Urban Studies and City Management» program at the AlmaU Institute of Urban Studies, which took place at the Almaty City Development Center.
The students presented applied research related to Almaty's development. Their projects focused on local community participation in the management and improvement of the Almalinsky District, the preservation of the historical urban environment, and the improvement of visual navigation systems for public transportation stops.
This format allowed students to connect their theoretical knowledge with real-world urban challenges, while experts were able to discuss the ideas and proposals of young researchers in a professional environment. For the Almaty City Development Center, the memorandum will provide an opportunity to strengthen collaboration with the academic community and develop new ideas for urban development through research and analysis. For AlmaU students, the partnership provides access to a practical environment, urban challenges, and professional experience in urban studies and city management.
The parties noted that this collaboration will contribute to improving the quality of urban development solutions, strengthening the connection between education and practice, and infusing Almaty's urban development agenda with new approaches and research initiatives.
