The Almaty City Development Center held its traditional «environment» meeting. This time, the meeting focused on creating a comfortable and accessible urban environment for all residents of the metropolis. Specialists from the Almaty City Development Center and the Almatygenplan Research Institute participated in the discussion.
During the meeting, an initiative to develop a city accessibility map was presented. It is planned to document various barriers in the urban environment, including high curbs, dangerous slopes, obstacles on pedestrian paths, and difficult-to-reach building entrances.
Almaty residents themselves are expected to be involved in the development of the digital system. A survey among city residents will be conducted through popular online platforms. This will allow residents to highlight problem areas and report barriers they encounter in their daily lives.
The short-term goal of the project is to help residents choose the most convenient and safe routes around the city. In the long term, the collected data will be used in the repair, reconstruction, and modernization of urban infrastructure to gradually address any identified deficiencies.
