Sky Train Coming to Almaty: Two Lines, 20 Stations, and a New Era of Urban Mobility

Almaty continues to advance its transport infrastructure with one of its most ambitious projects to date—the development of the Sky Train system. Designed to provide faster, more comfortable, and environmentally friendly public transportation, the project will significantly enhance urban mobility across the city.

According to the proposed plan, the Sky Train network will consist of two lines with a total length of 42 kilometers. The system will include 20 stations, connecting the western and eastern parts of Almaty while serving densely populated residential areas.

The new transport system is expected to serve districts with a combined population of approximately 582,000 residents. Integrated with the city's existing public transport network, the Sky Train will improve accessibility and significantly reduce travel times on key routes.

Preliminary estimates indicate that each Sky Train line will be capable of carrying up to 40 million passengers annually, substantially increasing the capacity of Almaty's public transportation system while helping reduce traffic congestion.

The project represents an important step toward building a modern, sustainable urban mobility network. As an elevated rail system, the Sky Train will operate independently of road traffic, ensuring reliable, efficient, and high-speed transportation for passengers.

Construction of the first Sky Train line is scheduled to begin next year. Once completed, the project will contribute to the comprehensive development of Almaty's transport infrastructure, improve the quality of the urban environment, and create a more convenient, safe, and sustainable public transportation system for both residents and visitors.
