Winners of the «WeAlmaty» project competition have been determined
As part of the WeAlmaty project, six civil initiatives to develop Almaty as a «smart city» received a grant from the European Union totaling 30,000euros. The WeAlmaty project is being implemented by the British Council, the Almaty City Development Centre, the mayor of Almaty and the Kazakhstan-British Technical University with the financial support of the European Union of 430,000 euros.
The winners of the «WeAlmaty» project competition, which started in November 2018 and aimed at the socio-economic development of Almaty, as well as the formation of a city of active citizens, were the winners of the grants. Applications were accepted until February 15, 2019.
A total of 122 applications were submitted. The decision on the awarding of grants was made by the Selection Panel, consisting of representatives of the project partners - the British Council, the Akimat of Almaty, the ADC and KBTU.

Projects were evaluated on four criteria:
1. A clear justification for the need and importance of the project for the city communities, including the identification of beneficiaries and key stakeholders;
2. A logical and understandable work plan, with budget-friendly and realistic objectives, involving your own resources and/or existing ones;
3. A reasonable and cost-effective budget, well connected to the work plan and new partners;
4. The potential for expansion of the project and a business plan that involves the sustainable development of the project during and after the grant.

The «WeAlmaty» project competition is held for the second year. For 2018-2019. 131 applications were submitted for the competition, of which 4 projects received a grant totaling 20,000 euros.
