Almaty plans to reduce traffic congestion and optimize traffic. Ruslan Berdenov, Chairman of the Board of JSC Almaty City Development Center, signed a memorandum to this effect with Integra Construction KZ LLP and the Shanghai Institute. The trilateral agreement was concluded during the Almaty-Shanghai Business Forum, held in the southern capital on April 7, 2026.
The agreement lays the foundation for launching specific projects: traffic flow analysis, implementation of digital solutions, and modernization of the city's road infrastructure management system.
Almaty Mayor Darkhan Satybaldy and Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng participated in the forum. The parties discussed expanding cooperation between the two cities.
In recent years, economic ties between Almaty and China have significantly strengthened. Last year, trade turnover increased by 20%, reaching USD 9.5 billion.
Today, Almaty occupies a leading position in digitalization and IT. More than half of all IT specialists in the country are concentrated here, creating a solid foundation for the rapid launch of technology projects.
Tourism also remains a key driver. Every second foreign tourist visiting Kazakhstan chooses Almaty. Last year, tourist flow to the city increased by 40%, reaching 136,000 people.
B2B meetings held during the forum became a platform for building specific business connections. It is these business-to-business contacts that enable signed memoranda to be translated into real projects.
