The main prize of the first city hackathon Almaty SmartCity Challenge was won by the HCK50 team with the Salem Tourist project

Three TEAMS of IT-developers won the first city hackathon for the prizes of the mayor of Almaty ‘Almaty SmartCity Challenge’. Total 40 participants (more than 140 participants).

In Almaty on October 5-6, the site of the Urban Projects Laboratory was digitalization day and the first hackathon for the city's mayor's prizes, the Almaty SmartCity Challenge. Organizers of the event are the Almaty City Development Center with the support of the city's mayor's office. The event was sponsored and sponsored by Kazakhtelecom, Kaspersky Lab K, Kazteleport, KFC, Hardee's, Road Radio, etc.

As a result of the city competition, the victory went to the team HCK50 (project Salem Touris), which won the main prize of 1.5 million tenge. The second place with a prize fund of 1 million tenge was taken by the Team GGG (Smart bin project), third place and the sum of 500,000 tenge was received by the Mbionics (Smart Parking Project).

Nine teams were also awarded special prizes from the event sponsors for interesting and creative ideas. All participants of the hackathon received name certificates.

Information about the most interesting places in Almaty, how and on what to get to the attractions, find out the rating and reviews of citizens about the cultural and entertainment institutions of the city, etc. This is the opportunity offered by the Salem Tourist mobile app, presented by the combined HCK50 team from Satbayev University and the International University of Information Technology (IITU). According to the developers, the application will increase the attractiveness of Almaty as a tourist destination and provide tourists with a comfortable stay here.

The Smart Bin project, which solves the problem of overcrowded dumpsters with the help of occupancy sensors, was proposed by students of Suleyman Demirel University. A special indicator installed on the container allows you to remotely track its occupancy, optimize the logistics of garbage disposal and reduce fuel costs.

In the direction of Traffic, a team of students from the International University of Information Technology (IITU) - Mbionics proposed a project «Smart Parking» to understand where the city can be parked, where the density of parked cars is less. According to the developers, the operational monitoring of vacant parking spaces will allow to manage the process of distribution of Almaty vehicles to parking zones.

During the hackathon, the participants developed more than 30 projects aimed at the development of the city. Cockroach farm for the disposal of food waste, biomechanical hand, sorting garbage, «smart» water sprinkler for watering green spaces of the city, system of recognition of car numbers with identification of the face of drivers, safety analysis in the city, reduction of traffic congestion, etc. the projects were presented to the participants by the expert jury, which included representatives of Kaspersky Lab, Kazteleport, PIT (Tech Garden), International University of Information Technology and the Data Analysis and Processing Center KazNu al-Farabi.

Projects with the most innovative and creative solutions will receive the support of the city in the implementation. Hackathon is one of the most popular formats of events in the IT sphere, which allows to encourage market players to create innovative solutions, so they will be held in Almaty on an annual basis.
