29.04.2026

On April 29, 2026, Pakizat Sailaubekova, General Manager of the Green Almaty Department at Almaty City Development Center JSC, gave a lecture to students at the Temirbek Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts. The lecture addressed key environmental issues in the southern capital and Kazakhstan as a whole. Specifically, air quality, water resources, and waste management were discussed. The speaker focused on the increasing concentration of PM2.5 particles and their impact on health, access to drinking water and projected shortages, and the current situation with waste generation and recycling.

Special attention was paid to developing environmental awareness. Students were shown the stages of developing environmental awareness—from understanding the problem to implementing eco-friendly habits in their daily lives and professional activities. Career opportunities in the field of sustainable development were also explored. The discussion focused on new professions at the intersection of ecology, technology, and communications—urban ecologists, recycling specialists, and eco-designers—which is especially relevant for students majoring in creative fields.

The practical portion provided recommendations for developing environmental projects, from correctly defining the problem to assessing their effectiveness and sustainability. The lecture was interactive and elicited a strong response from the students. Such meetings foster environmental responsibility and increase young people's interest in the sustainable development agenda.
