Deputy Akim of Almaty Abzal Nukenov Reviews the Work of the Almaty City Development Center

Deputy Akim of Almaty Abzal Nukenov paid a working visit to the Almaty City Development Center to review its activities, ongoing projects, and analytical tools that support evidence-based urban governance.

The Center conducts comprehensive analytical research to support the city's development planning, participates in the preparation of strategic and policy documents, systematizes urban data, evaluates municipal projects, and provides continuous support for their implementation. It also develops analytical insights that help city authorities make informed management decisions.

Currently, the Center's specialists are conducting an in-depth assessment of the accessibility and capacity of healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and preschool organizations across Almaty. The analysis takes into account population growth, demographic trends, territorial distribution of social infrastructure, and the workload of existing facilities to identify areas requiring further development.

During the visit, experts from the Situation Center presented the results of their analytical work, including digital dashboards, interactive maps, and data-driven tools used to monitor urban development. The findings will serve as a basis for determining the most appropriate locations for the construction of new schools, kindergartens, and healthcare facilities.

Particular attention was also given to the activities of the Project Office, which currently oversees the implementation of 186 projects included in nine city development roadmaps. The Project Office continuously monitors project timelines, performance indicators, potential risks, and implementation progress to ensure effective execution.

The delegation was also introduced to the updated project management system. Under the new governance model, ten cross-functional working groups responsible for implementing the city's key strategic priorities have been established. Their activities are personally supervised by the Deputy Akims and the Head of the Akim's Office, ensuring stronger interdepartmental coordination, faster decision-making, and more effective project delivery.

Abzal Nukenov oversees the sectors of youth policy, culture, and education. Progress on projects within these areas is reviewed during weekly coordination meetings, where implementation status, adherence to deadlines, and emerging issues requiring managerial decisions are discussed.

At the conclusion of the visit, the participants emphasized the importance of strengthening data-driven governance and expanding the use of analytical and digital solutions to improve the quality of urban planning and enhance the effectiveness of management decisions aimed at the sustainable development of Almaty.
