On August 19, 2016, a memorandum was signed between Almaty City Development Center and Eco-PARK Company LLP, under which Eco-PARK Company will provide coverage to the city of Almaty with a wireless telecommunications network implemented using Long Range (LoRaWAN protocol), which is a continuation of the development of the IoT - Internet of Things concept.
This network will test data transmission from a variety of sensors such as metering devices, trackers, water sensors, smoke, border crossings, soil moisture, etc.
In the future, such a telecommunications network can be used for the needs of utilities in Almaty, as well as all interested enterprises and organizations of the city. For example, for remote removal of readings from apartment and household meters, vending business, etc.
The information and communication network system, which includes various urban facilities of administrative, economic, housing, public and commercial activities, is one of the main provisions of the Smart City concept. The aim is to increase the level of urban economy. The concept is already promoting the efficiency of urban infrastructures in many countries.
In turn, «SmartAlmaty» is one of the priority projects of the Almaty City Development Center, which is based on the key principles of the Smart City concept. With the help of this project it is planned to solve the issues of improving the infrastructure of the city of Almaty, including the coverage of the city's wireless telecommunications network.
