Bostandyk District to Continue Upgrading Courtyards and Public Spaces This Year
This year, Almaty’s Bostandyk District will continue its programme to improve courtyards and public spaces. The planned projects will include the renovation of residential courtyards, building façades, pedestrian areas, lighting and irrigation infrastructure.
One of the key priorities will be the comprehensive improvement of residential courtyards. A total of 52 courtyards will undergo major renovation, while another 16 courtyards will receive routine repairs.
The works will include improvements to courtyard areas and pathways, upgrades to children’s playgrounds and sports facilities, as well as the installation or replacement of benches and waste bins. These measures are intended to create safer, more comfortable and functional spaces for residents.
Building façades and architectural lighting
The improvement programme will extend beyond residential courtyards and will also focus on enhancing the appearance of neighbourhoods.
This year, the façades of 67 residential buildings are planned to be renovated, while 26 buildings will receive architectural lighting.
These projects will help improve the urban environment in a comprehensive way — upgrading spaces that residents use every day while also enhancing the architectural appearance of streets and residential areas.
14 projects proposed by residents
Residents themselves will also play an active role in shaping the development of Bostandyk District.
This year, 14 projects proposed by residents are planned for implementation under the Participatory Budgeting programme.
The initiatives include improvements to pedestrian areas and public spaces, as well as upgrades to irrigation systems. Through this mechanism, residents can directly propose changes they believe are needed in their courtyards, streets and neighbourhoods.
Residents helping shape their neighbourhoods
Participatory budgeting gives citizens an opportunity to propose their own projects for improving the urban environment and to take part in shaping the areas they use every day.
Local residents are often best placed to identify the needs of their neighbourhoods — whether it is improving a pedestrian area, upgrading a public space, enhancing landscaping or modernising irrigation infrastructure.
Selected initiatives can then move from community proposals to practical urban projects.
The comprehensive improvement of courtyards and public spaces is aimed at creating a more comfortable, safe and accessible urban environment in Bostandyk District.
Participatory budgeting provides residents with a practical way to influence the development of their neighbourhoods and turn community initiatives into real urban improvements.
