On June 18, an expert group together with the Urbanism Center toured the territories to install the author's art objects for the project «Almaty is Warm City.»
Every year in Almaty there are works on decoration of the urban environment. The look of the city is changing for the big holidays and the changing seasons. Decorative design of the city has a cultural and communicative function, conducts a dialogue with the social, historical, urban contextual space.
Creative agency FUNK invited the City Administration to involve residents and accept ideas for decorative urban design from caring professionals of the city: designers, architects, artists, urbanists, sculptors.
Senior Urban Architect of the Almaty Development Center, Sarina Dauletkan commented on the bypass: «The purpose of this program is to create public recreation areas, meeting places, a center of cultural attraction for residents and guests, decorating the city with author's art objects. The expert group, which included active residents of the city, specialists of the Center for Urbanism, Tourism Management, Department of Culture and others, inspected possible sites for the placement of each facility. It is important to arrange the sculptures so that they fit harmoniously and functionally, so that the semantic binding is not lost. Opinions about some sites are divided, so additional analysis will be carried out, after which the project will be submitted for approval by the administration. Installation of the works will be carried out this summer.»
Now the project «Almaty is Warm City» has 13 art objects, which have the task of forming an environment, cultural values, the identity of the city, identifying and solving social problems through subject, aesthetic tools. This is part of the co-participating formation of the urban environment, in which residents «regain the right to the city» and its identity becomes visible, voluminous, lively, filled.
One of the participants of the expert group was the Kazakhstani sculptor Eduard Kazaryan, who noted the peculiarities of the project: «I am pleased that the works to be installed are thematically free. They are absolutely creative and tied only to the general idea of the festival «Almaty is warm city«, and this is a fairly broad interpretation, suitable for many works. I love that there are more and more creative objects in the city. The atmosphere of the city should be perceived by the citizens, guests as a museum, gallery atmosphere. After all, art can fill, tune, inspire not only in a closed space. It is necessary to treat the atmosphere of the city with care and thinly enough. The works of ‘Bird’ and ‘Family’, which have been presented by me, are iconic in different approaches.»
