A working meeting was held at the Almaty Development Center to discuss preparing an application for this status. Elmira Karmanova, the CDA's chief project manager and the creator of the social project «Book Capital,» met with representatives of the Kitap Elshiler initiative group.

Restoration work is currently underway at the site. The building's exterior façade, stage, and auditorium are being completely modernized. A new additional facility is also under construction on the theater grounds. This project expands the cultural center's capabilities and opens a small stage and a 220-seat auditorium in the new building.
