Analytical Note

Regarding the placement of information about in-demand professions on official city websites

The lack of information about the labor market negatively affects career choices, the employment process, the effectiveness of educational programs, and the economy as a whole.

At one of the dialogue platform meetings of the «Political Culture of Kazakhstan» social project of the «Information Resource Center» Public Foundation, dedicated to labor and employment issues in Almaty, residents raised the issue of low awareness about in-demand professions in the city labor market. One of the suggestions was to place this information on city websites. This information would facilitate career choices for young people.

However, even though official statistical information is publicly available, for ordinary residents, searching for and analyzing information is not an easy task. It is necessary to have at least basic analytical skills to process statistical information and experience working with such websites and portals.

Additionally, this practice has already been implemented in many cities worldwide. For example, the Moscow Analytical Center website has a special section – special projects, one of which is dedicated to applicants and young professionals1.

One of the sections of the project is the information «What to do after university,» which presents information on the dynamics of employment and wages by economic sectors.

Furthermore, a similar example can be seen in London, where information about priority sectors for work in the city’s economy is posted on the municipal website2 (Appendix 1).

Based on the above, it is proposed to consider providing regular (quarterly) information on the trends of the city labor market on the official websites of the Almaty city administration (for example, the websites of the Department of Education, Employment and Social Programs, Youth Policy Department, Open Almaty portal, CRA website, etc.) in the form of digests or infographics.

An example of an infographic with up-to-date data is presented in Appendix 2.

Submitted as a suggestion.
